“Cursed Child” Opening Date Announced for Hamburg, Germany

by Lucy O'Shea · March 16, 2019

German Potter fans who are looking forward to seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child can now start to count down the days until the play opens at the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg, Germany. Check out the brand-new official trailer below!

Until now, the opening date ofHarry Potter und das verwunschene Kind has been stated simply as spring 2020. However, according to the Cursed Child Germany website and in an email to presale newsletter subscribers, the premiere date of the play has been revealed as March 15, 2020, with previews starting on February 7.

Fans who have signed up for the ticket presale will be able to purchase their tickets on March 21 using their personal access code. General ticket sales begin on March 25 at 10 a.m. More information can be found on the Cursed Child website. Ticket prices for each part will start at €49.95 per part, making it a minimum of €99.90 total for both parts.

Like the other productions of Cursed Child, the German production will also have weekly Friday Forty tickets available. This will give fans the chance to see both parts of the play for €40 (€20 per part) via a ticket lottery. More information about how fans can take part in the Friday Forty for the German production has yet to be announced.

Harry’s Geschichte geht weiter. Ab Frühjahr 2020 im Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg. Offizieller Start des Ticketverkaufs ist der 25. März 2019. Newsletter-Abonnenten erhalten Tickets schon ab 21. März. #HarryPotterTheaterDE #CursedChildDE pic.twitter.com/wdX1dWeLQL

The play’s creators John Tiffany and Jack Thorne, along with J.K. Rowling, have previously spoken about bringing Cursed Child to Germany for the first non-English-language production. Tiffany has mentioned that the architecture of the Mehr! Theater will make the play feel different from the productions in London, New York, and San Francisco:

It’s a different age of architecture but equally as exciting in terms of how Cursed Child will sit there.

And with less than a year until Cursed Child takes to the stage in Hamburg, fans won’t have long to wait to see how this new location will capture the magic of the extended wizarding world! You can check out the rest of the interview below.

As of yet, there has been no casting news for this production. But now that we’re counting down the days until February 7, 2020, it’s likely that we’ll be finding out who will be stepping into the roles sometime later in 2019.

Until then, make sure to keep an eye on MuggleNet for all Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind news!
