UPDATED: “Harry Potter” Film Props Up for Auction in Surrey This Month

by Mary Wojcicki · May 3, 2019

Film props from the Harry Potter series are among those going up for auction later this month at an auction house in Surrey, according to SurreyLive. Ewbank’s will be auctioning off film and music memorabilia at auctions on May 30, and Harry Potter fans might be interested in bidding!

SurreyLive writes that the Harry Potter props were consigned by a former transportation driver for the films. From the Ewbank’s listing online, a piece of sheet music from the first film will be up for auction.

An elaborate gold[-]inlaid production[-]made song sheet with gold ribbon tie used in the film by the students in the Great Hall at Hogwarts, 10 x 8.5 inches.

The report from SurreyLive states that a Gryffindor robe used in production has been put up for auction, although the robes do not appear in either of the Ewbank’s listings for the date of the auction. The robes are reportedly valued between £800 and £1,200.

UPDATE (May 23):

The website for Ewbank’s has been updated! As noted by an article on Mental Floss, there have been a number of new items of Harry Potter memorabilia added to the auction listing for May 30.

The Gryffindor robes that had been missing from the website have returned, valued between £500 and £800.

Also up for auction is a pair of eyeglasses that Daniel Radcliffe wore as Harry Potter in the first film. Ewbank’s provided a description of the iconic round glasses, coming from the collection of Simon Murray (Onspec-Ontic):

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) – Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, a pair of silver metal wire frame glasses. Round clear lenses, bordered in black matte finish, silver metal earpieces tipped with transparent plastic. Left frame arm inscribed ‘FRAME MADE IN ENGLAND’ and right earpiece numbered ’40 20 135′. These glasses are one of only a small number of pairs produced for the film. This is one of the first pairs of glasses Daniel Radcliffe wore as Harry Potter.

The glasses are valued between £3,000 and £5,000.

Also from the production of the first film is a Hogwarts letter addressed to Harry. Sealed with a printed seal and unopened, it is valued between £150 and £250.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) production made sealed unopened Hogwarts Invitation envelope addressed to Harry Potter. These envelopes can be seen flying through the air in the movie. Two styles of envelopes were made for production with either a rear wax seal or rear printed seal, this being of the latter style, 5.5 x 7.5 inches

Additional items now up for auction include a life-size display prop of Kreacher, a life-size display prop of Dobby, and a birdhouse prop from Hagrid’s hut in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
