Robert Pattinson Works with Robert Eggers in New Horror Movie “The Lighthouse”

It’s definitely fair to say that the younger actors from the Wizarding World franchise have branched out with their careers since leaving Hogwarts. Robert Pattinson was loved for his part as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Now, Pattinson is taking his chance in the indie movie scene.

Fans didn’t get to see Cedric Diggory for more than one movie (cue the tears) due to his untimely demise. But that hasn’t seemed to deter Pattinson from more unforgettable roles. His newest movie, though, may prove to be his most provoking yet. The Lighthouse follows two lighthouse keepers in 1890’s New England. But reality may not be in such close reaches. Keepers Ephraim Winslow (played by Robert Pattinson) and Thomas Wake (played by Willem Dafoe) must keep their wits about them if they are to survive the island and each other in a movie that quickly spirals into a psychedelic fantasy mystery.

Writer and director Robert Eggers brings the audience a very new level of uncomfortable, but must-watch, horror. Eggers was responsible for the highly acclaimed movie The VVitch: A New-England Folktale in 2015. Eggers and Pattinson may have topped themselves this time, earning The Lighthouse a whopping 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The trailer for the film, debuting a few weeks ago, looks very different from the average horror movie right off the bat. The cinematography itself is what sets it apart. Shot on all black and white 35 mm film, a very unusual feat in times of CGI, Pattinson’s performance is raw.

 

 

Pattinson describes what it was like working in the field with Eggers and Dafoe.

It was like some kind of torture. It definitely creates an interesting energy. I must say that I’ve never seen someone with such a supernatural level of energy as [Dafoe].

With that thought in mind, The Lighthouse could prove to do very well with horror-enthralled audiences. Robert Pattinson is clearly over his magical ways, but that has not stopped fans from enjoying his latest work.
