New Permits Spark Further Epic Universe Speculation

by Lucy O'Shea · May 2, 2020

Universal Orlando Resort’s newest theme park, Epic Universe, remains a topic of speculation for both Wizarding World fans and theme park enthusiasts alike. While an opening year for the park was announced back in October, there has still been little in the way of information in what the park will contain.

According to Orlando ParkStop, a permit recently filed with Orange County, Florida, revealed further details about the layout of the park, including the position of almost every building and structure. The image of the permit has since been removed on request of Orange County, but Orlando ParkStop has added some of the new details and attraction theories to the Epic Universe concept art.

For fans of the Wizarding World, the newly revealed permits have given further detail to the potential layout of a rumored Fantastic Beasts-themed land. Fans have speculated that the area toward the back of the park on the right side of the hotel would be transformed into 1920s Paris, as seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

It is rumored that the land will contain an interactive dark ride, a theater show, and another attraction, all housed within the very large building seen on the Epic Universe concept art. Although the permit did not include any details of the attractions, it did appear to support the theory that the majority of the land will be inside a large structure. The permit also suggested a quick-service restaurant would be situated near the entrance to the land. While we’re hoping for Kowalski Quality Baked Goods, if the land will be themed around 1920s Paris, the quick-service restaurant is more likely to be themed around French cuisine.

From ride patents revealed in April, Orlando ParkStop has speculated further on what fans can expect from the attractions in a possible Fantastic Beasts-themed land.

The main attraction is rumored to be an interactive adventure in which riders travel through the streets of Paris, helping Newt round up his magical creatures, potentially using the interactive wand technology already used in the Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade areas of Universal Orlando Resort. Additional patents have suggested that the second ride in the Fantastic Beasts-themed land could be a tower-based attraction. Orlando ParkStop has suggested that the French Ministry of Magic could take center stage in this second ride.

Although Universal Orlando Resort is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction has continued at the Epic Universe location, and it is still expected to open in 2023.

What would you like to see from a potential Fantastic Beasts-themed land?
