House of MinaLima to Launch Virtual Tours

by Dora Bodrogi · July 2, 2020

This July 4, get ready to break out your Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes fireworks. Although some Universal theme parks are beginning to reopen, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway is not resuming performances until next year. However, we have news to celebrate: House of MinaLima is launching virtual tours of its London gallery that will be available for everyone online.

House of MinaLima is the London home of all things graphic design in the wizarding world as seen in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series. While the gallery is free to visit in person, with the option to purchase merchandise on the ground floor, so far it has only been available to those who can visit the United Kingdom’s capital. Given the restrictions due to COVID-19, this real-life Harry Potter landmark has been closed to the public since March, but it is finally opening its virtual doors at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. BST on July 4.

As one commenter on MinaLima’s Facebook page pointed out, the virtual tours will also be great for fans with disabilities who can’t access the upper floors. There are indeed many tight flights of stairs in this historical house squeezed between other Muggle buildings. MinaLima responded that, unfortunately, they are not able to make the building fully accessible because it is protected due to its age and it is in a conservation zone like all of Soho, the London district where it is situated. Just a short walk from the Palace Theatre, where Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is performed when there isn’t a worldwide pandemic, House of MinaLima is a real gem for Harry Potter fans on a touristic pilgrimage:

House of MinaLima™ on 26 Greek Street, London showcases nearly twenty years of the creative collaboration of Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, founders of MinaLima™. The House boasts four floors of distinctive designs, from the graphic art of the Wizarding World to a series of illustrated classic fairy tale books for Harper Collins. Visitors to House of MinaLima™ will discover much more than a gallery and shop; this enchanting building offers a truly immersive experience.

And now we get to wander around in it from the comfort of our home and without tourists standing between us and such prized items such as the Marauder’s Map, a crate full of Harry’s acceptance letters, or the Hogwarts textbooks. This July, walk House of MinaLima’s virtual stairs thanks to the magic of Muggle technology.
