“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Hamburg Sees Record Number of Visitors
The Hamburg, Germany, production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has achieved an exciting new milestone. An estimated 300,000 fans have attended the production since it opened on December 5, 2021, at the Theater am Großmarkt. The numbers translate to an impressive average occupancy rate of 90% for each show.
“It makes us extraordinarily proud to play to an almost sold-out house in these challenging times,” said managing director Matthias Lienemann. German fans are certainly a passionate bunch, with Lienemann revealing that some Potterheads have seen the show over ten times.

Cursed Child has achieved remarkable success across the globe, with record-breaking ticket sales for many other productions. In April, the Melbourne, Australia, production broke the record for the most tickets sold for any stage play in Australia after surpassing one million tickets.
The San Francisco, California, production of Cursed Child broke a box office record in 2019 after earning over $2 million in the last week of the year. The earnings set a new record for the highest weekly gross of a play in the history of San Francisco.
Cursed Child in New York, New York, broke its own record for single-week ticket sales on Broadway with an astounding $2,277,446 gross during the week of June 17, 2018.
The Hamburg iteration of Cursed Child is the first non-English-language production of the play. It is set to go on a brief hiatus before transitioning to the shortened, one-part version on February 9, 2023. All productions of Cursed Child, with the exception of London, England, have adopted the one-part format.
