Lincoln Center investigating ‘mistake’ of early ticket sales for JK Rowling event in NYC

by Keith Hawk · September 10, 2012

As we reported previously, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is scheduled to make a rare appearance in the United States to promote her soon-to-be-released adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, on October 16 at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Tickets were originally scheduled to go on sale Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. EDT. However, tickets were “mistakenly” sold by Lincoln Center 12 hours early. Many of the MuggleNet staff were among those lucky enough to spot the sale and ultimately purchase tickets to attend the event.

The Lincoln Center staff has openly admitted to the mistake, which implies that some of the seats sold early were in fact double-booked. We at MuggleNet raised our eyebrows when two of our staff members had identical tickets. However, even with the “mistake”, Lincoln Center reps state that “arrangements may be made to honor each ticket purchased.”

The full statement issued by the Lincoln Center website states:

Due to technical difficulties on the ticketing website, tickets for the J. K. Rowling event on 10/16/12 were made available prematurely at 10 pm on September 9th. Tickets then went on sale at the previously announced time of 10 am on September 10th. Jazz at Lincoln Center is in the process of investigating how this occurred and what arrangements may be made to honor each ticket purchased, and will provide an update as quickly as possible. Neither JK Rowling nor Little Brown and Company are responsible for this situation. Jazz at Lincoln Center apologizes for any inconvenience.

Lincoln Center has provided a mixture of answers to questions, some representatives are saying that all the ticket sales will be honored while other representatives are unsure and are saying that ticket sales from Sunday night may be invalid.

As information becomes available, we will keep you updated.

Thanks to Hypable for the update and tip!
