Fight Dementors in Style
Now that the pressure of Christmas gifts is over, we can relax and focus on my favorite type of presents: New Year’s surprises. There are no obligations on New Year’s Eve. It’s a hassle-free, fun, and light holiday. With all of my work finished and filed already, giving me some time off, I thought I’d spend a couple of days making a little something to put a smile on my family’s faces. I needed something everyone loves, something fun. How about something so powerfully good that it even helps you recover from a Dementor attack?
As we all know, there are four types of people: Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, Hufflepuffs, and Slytherins. That is why I organized my chocolate recipe ideas according to which Hogwarts House would enjoy them the most. The best thing about these gifts is that they require little effort. All you need to do is melt chocolate, pour it in a mold, and top it off with delicious ingredients.[divider]
For our daring Gryffindors, I needed a more extraordinary taste. I wanted chocolates that are not mass produced or found in any department store. The ingredients had to be ones not everyone would dare try together.
Ingredients: 70% dark chocolate, Mexican chile powder, dried papaya, pepitas (pumpkin seed)
Sugar & Spice
Ingredients: white chocolate, candied orange, cardamom, hazelnuts, cinnamon, sesame seed
I believe Ravenclaws would enjoy more classic tastes. They know what they like and stick to it. For the Ravenclaws in my life, I wanted to achieve rich, yet not too sweet, flavors with straight-forward ingredients.
Ingredients: milk chocolate, toffee, pecans, walnuts
Nuts for Nuts
Ingredients: 70% dark chocolate, honey-roasted peanuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts
For Hufflepuffs, I wanted something sweet and comforting, a chocolate to indulge in by the fireplace. These flavors remind me of a warm day in the botanic garden or a relaxing afternoon walk.
Picnic in the Park
Ingredients: white chocolate, dried strawberries, crystallized rose petal pieces, almonds
Ingredients: white chocolate, pistachios, crystallized violet petal pieces, crystallized mint leaf pieces
For Slytherins, I was looking for classy yet fresh tastes. These chocolates are unique and special without being too unfamiliar. They certainly have a bit of an edge.
Ingredients: 70% dark chocolate, sour cherries, pistachios, crystallized violet petal pieces, crystallized rose petal pieces
Ingredients: 70% dark chocolate, dried strawberries, dried coconut, macadamia nuts, crystallized mint leaf pieces[divider]
These chocolates may not jump around like real frogs or hide cards with wizards waving at you, and none of them contain earwax flavor, but they’re certainly worth a try! After tasting some of these sweet combinations, you’ll never fear a Dementor again in your life.
