Diary of a First Year – Part 4
September 5, afternoon
I thought I’d figured out how to navigate this castle, but I guess I was wrong. Very wrong, it turns out. As I tried to make my way from Astronomy to Herbology today, I got hopelessly lost! I think a staircase changed; a fourth-year told me they do that sometimes. I thought I was heading down to the Entrance Hall, but I somehow ended up in a corridor I’d never seen before. I don’t know if anyone goes there very regularly. There weren’t even portraits on the walls. Finally, I came across a suit of armor and sat down because there was no way I could tell where I was. I was almost about to cry, and I said out loud, “How am I supposed to get to the greenhouses?” I almost jumped out of my skin when the suit of armor suddenly pointed down the corridor! Somehow, it heard me, and when I followed where it was pointing, I found myself right at the top of the grand staircase! I guess this castle really is alive in some ways. In any case, I was just on time to Herbology today, and I’ll be keeping an eye on all the suits of armor around if I need help in the future.
