Eighteen years ago today, Harry Potter entered the prefects’ bathroom on a tip from Cedric Diggory. He started the water running and submerged the mysterious Golden Egg in the bath at Moaning Myrtle’s suggestion, for she had seen the other boy do the same.
For a little while now we have been promoting the new MuggleNet fandom calendar on our website – a 2013 calendar with all of the usual functionality of a normal calendar but with a little extra magic. This unique calendar we’re talking about already comes pre-marked with all of the most significant dates from the <em<Harry Potter fandom, including birthdays of the characters/film actors, dates of notable Potter conventions, and even memorable dates from the book series, like this one.
Characteristically, Snape may not be too happy about it, but today we’d like everyone to join us in wishing a very warm, enthusiastic, and heart-felt happy birhtday to our favorite Potions professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! He would have been 53 today if he hadn’t been, well… we’re sure you’re familiar with the story.
Here at MuggleNet, we like to make note of just about every day that’s significant to the Harry Potter community, and today – January 8 – we’re celebrating Freddie Stroma’s birthday. His character may have given Hermione and Ron a hard time in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but we won’t hold that against him.

Did you know that on this day in 1994 Harry Potter began to take lessons with Professor Lupin so that he could learn the high-level Patronus Charm, a magical defense against Dementors?
