Natalia Tena Begins 720K Walk in Support of Orchid Project

Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks) has begun a 720-kilometer walk in support of Orchid Project, a British charity working to bring an end to the practice of female genital cutting (FGC), often referred to as female genital mutilation (FGM).

On September 9, Tena announced that she was about to begin her walk along Spain’s Camino del Norte on her Twitter, where she linked to a crowdfunding page for Orchid Project on JustGiving.

Orchid Project states its mission on its website:

Orchid Project are an NGO catalysing the global movement to end female genital cutting (FGC). FGC is a human rights violation that harms the lives of girls, women and their communities. Orchid Project partner with pioneering grassroots organisations around the world and share knowledge and best practice to accelerate change. Orchid Project also advocate among governments and global leaders to ensure work to end FGC is prioritised.

In August, Tena wrote that she had previously planned to begin the journey in March but was unable to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

(Tena isn’t the first Harry Potter actor to have their charitable plans derailed by the virus either. James Phelps, who portrayed Fred Weasley, was supposed to take part in a cycling challenge to raise funds for Thames Hospice this month.)

If you would like to help Natalia Tena reach her fundraising goal of £3,700, you can donate to her JustGiving page. For more on Orchid Project, you can visit its website.
