“Harry Potter” Alumni Pen Novels and Memoirs

From dancing to singing, activism, and now writing, the Harry Potter actors are a multitalented group that is constantly finding new ways to delight fans beyond the silver screen. August 9 was National Book Lovers Day, and to celebrate, we present several upcoming titles from members of the Harry Potter cast including David Thewlis, Jessie Cave, Evanna Lynch, and Bonnie Wright.

David Thewlis played the kind but complicated Remus Lupin. As an author, he made his literary debut with The Late Hector Kipling, a dark comedy reminiscent of Hitchcock that takes readers on a twisted ride into madness. His newest title is Shooting Martha, a witty story set within Hollywood film sets about an actor looking to uncover the secrets his wife left behind.

Shooting Martha is available for preorder now and will be published on August 5, 2021.

Next up is Jessie Cave, who played the tragic Lavender Brown. Her debut novel is called Sunset, and Goodreads says:

The debut adult novel from Jessie Cave is a spry yet reflective comedy of sisterhood, loneliness and second chances as a rootless young woman starts to piece her life back together again. Sunset is an unconventional love story about putting yourself back together when the sky has fallen in.”

We can’t wait to read this intriguing tale of sisterhood and loss. Sunset was released on June 21, 2021.

For something a little different, we drift off into the world of nonfiction with Evanna Lynch’s forthcoming memoir The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and The Glory of Growing Up; A Memoir. Lynch played the unforgettable Luna Lovegood. Many know of how Evanna Lynch was picked from thousands to play the role of a lifetime, but this book promises to go behind the curtain and show the real story.

We’ll have to wait a little for the final word on the new book by Bonnie Wright, who played the fiery Ginny Weasley, but she promises that it will be a lifestyle-type book on sustainability. It should be out sometime in 2022. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to read Wright’s and all the other Harry Potter alumni’s books!

You can also listen to these titles and others on Audible and relive the series that started it all with MinaLima’s beautiful renditions.  All are a fantastic way to celebrate National Book Lovers Day this year and support your favorite actors from the films. So which title are you most looking forward to reading?

I discovered Harry Potter a little late in the game (high school) but have loved it ever since. My favorite characters are Harry, Hermione, and Luna, and my favorite book in the series is Deathly Hallows. As a librarian, I’m typical Ravenclaw, who also loves history, traveling and writing.
