Netflix Reveals Release Date and a First Look at “Cabinet of Curiosities”
Fans of horror and Harry Potter star Rupert Grint have extra incentive to gather ’round the television this coming Halloween season. Guillermo del Toro’s creepy anthology series, Cabinet of Curiosities, will be hitting Netflix starting October 25, rolling out over four days as part of the aptly named Netflix & Chills Halloween event. The streaming service offered up some shivers in the meantime with a special first-look video.
Counted among the immensely talented cast is Rupert Grint, whose acting credits have certainly leaned toward all things creepy in the past few years. Recently cast in M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin, a thriller expected in 2023, Grint also just wrapped up the third season of the psychological horror series Servant. It was while starring in this series, in fact, that Grint got the attention of Guillermo del Toro, who tweeted that the actor “almost steals it for me.” He was confirmed to star in del Toro’s anthology late last year. Other members of the ensemble include Ben Barnes, Essie Davis, Crispin Glover, Andrew Lincoln, Eric André, Kate Micucci, F. Murray Abraham, Luke Roberts, Tim Blake Nelson, Hannah Galway, Charlyne Yi, Glynn Turman, and David Hewlett.
Cabinet of Curiosities will be structured into eight individual stories, two of which are original pieces by del Toro. Each story will involve different writers and directors and is intended to challenge the viewers’ preconceived notions of the genre. Del Toro issued a statement expanding on this notion.
With ‘Cabinet of Curiosities,’ we set out to showcase the realities existing outside of our normal world: the anomalies and curiosities. We hand-picked and curated a group of stories and storytellers to deliver these tales, whether they come from outer space, supernatural lore, or simply within our minds. Just in time for Halloween, each of these eight tales is a fantastical peek inside the cabinet of delights existing underneath the reality we live in.
The names of each episode lend to further speculation on the stories themselves. They include “Dreams in the Witch House,” “Graveyard Rats,” “Lot 36,” “Pickman’s Model,” “The Autopsy,” “The Murmuring,” “The Outside,” and “The Viewing.”
