“Harry Potter” Stars Join Virtual Tea Party for Guide Dog Charity

by Mary Wojcicki · April 22, 2020

In place of in-person gatherings, many events are going virtual in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. From web readings of plays to movie marathons, there’s always some way to keep busy, and some Harry Potter stars joined in for a virtual tea party for charity yesterday!

To celebrate National Tea Day, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, also known by its working name Guide Dogs, hosted a virtual tea party on April 21. Through Facebook, the charity aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest virtual tea party.

The event included numerous famous participants. Among them were Dame Julie Walters (Molly Weasley), Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge), David Bradley (Argus Filch), and Sophie Thompson (Mafalda Hopkirk).

Here’s some of the lovely stars of screen and sport who are helping spread the word about our @GWR for the biggest Virtual Tea Party on 21 April for #NationalTeaDay!

Pam White, Fundraising Manager for Guide Dogs, was quoted on the organization’s page about the event.

Over the last few years, our wonderful supporters have been hosting tea parties around the country on National Tea Day and donating the proceeds to Guide Dogs. In 2019, Great Guide Dogs Tea Parties across the year raised an incredible £60,000. Of course, we are in a very different situation in 2020, but we wanted to give everyone the chance to join our #GuideDogsFamily and make a difference. We are delighted at how many people have joined us in our attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest virtual tea party. It looks like we’ve smashed it, and we’re hopeful for official verification of this very soon.

By asking people to donate the cost of their cuppa, we’re raising vital funds to help ensure people with sight loss don’t feel alone now, and in the future. We completely appreciate that this is an extremely difficult time for many charities, and we are so grateful to all our donors who continue to show their support.

Check out the Facebook event for the tea party for more fun from the Great Guide Dogs Virtual Tea Party. For more information on the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, visit the organization’s website.
